A toilet that's running constantly, leaking at the base, or won't flush properly needs attention before it causes water damage or an unexpectedly high water bill.
- The toilet keeps refilling or running long after you've flushed
- Water pooling on the floor around the base of the toilet
- The flush button or lever does nothing, or the flush doesn't clear the pan
- The cistern is cracked, sweating, or dripping from underneath
- The toilet rocks slightly when you sit down, or the seal feels loose
- A hissing sound from the cistern between flushes
What we fix
We repair every common cause of a leaking or running toilet, not just the obvious ones — most jobs are diagnosed and fixed in a single visit.
- Running toilets — worn flush valves, flappers and fill valves
- Leaking toilets — cracked cisterns, failed seals and loose connections
- Toilet leaking at the base — failed pan connectors and worn wax or rubber seals
- Toilet flush not working — snapped levers, cables and broken flush mechanisms
- Blocked or slow-flushing toilets
- Wobbly or loose toilets — refitting and re-securing to the floor
For a deeper look at two of the most common issues, see our guides on a leaking toilet and toilet leaking at the base.
How fast can we get to you?
Most East London toilet repairs get a plumber on site the same day, because we're based centrally in E1 rather than dispatching from outside London. A running or slow-leaking toilet isn't usually classed as an emergency, but if yours is leaking heavily or overflowing, call us and we'll treat it as a priority job.
We regularly repair toilets in Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Islington, Newham, Southwark, Canary Wharf, Shoreditch, Whitechapel, Bethnal Green and Mile End, as well as the wider London area. If you're not sure we cover your postcode, call 07460 824073 and we'll tell you straight away.
Should I try to fix a running toilet myself?
You can often stop a running toilet temporarily by checking the flapper seal or adjusting the float in the cistern, but a proper fix usually means replacing the worn part rather than just repositioning it. If you're comfortable removing the cistern lid and don't mind getting your hands wet, our leaking toilet guide walks through what to check before calling a plumber.
How much does toilet repair cost?
It depends on which part has failed — a fill valve or flapper replacement is a smaller job than fitting a new pan connector or refitting a loose toilet. We always give a free quote before we start any work, so you'll know the cost upfront. See our pricing page for more detail.
Covering your area
We repair running and leaking toilets across East and Central London, including for a plumber in Islington, a plumber in Newham and a plumber in Tower Hamlets. See our area pages for borough-specific coverage.
FAQs
Why does my toilet keep running?
A toilet that keeps running after you flush almost always means the flush valve (the flapper or seal at the bottom of the cistern) isn't sealing properly, or the fill valve isn't shutting off once the cistern is full. Both are quick fixes for a plumber, and worth sorting quickly since a running toilet wastes water every hour it's left.
Why is my toilet leaking at the base?
A toilet leaking at the base is usually a failed pan connector or a worn wax/rubber seal between the toilet and the soil pipe, though it can also be a cracked cistern or loose fixing bolts. It's worth fixing promptly because water sitting at the base can damage flooring and, in a flat, leak through to the ceiling below. See our guide to a toilet leaking at the base for how to check it yourself first.
Why is my toilet flush not working?
If the flush not working means nothing happens when you press the button, the lever or cable linking the button to the flush valve has usually snapped or disconnected inside the cistern. If it flushes but doesn't clear properly, the flush valve isn't lifting fully or the cistern isn't refilling with enough water before the next flush.
Can a leaking toilet be repaired without replacing it?
Yes, in most cases. Leaking cisterns, worn seals, faulty valves and loose connectors can all be repaired or replaced individually without swapping out the whole toilet. We only recommend a full replacement if the pan or cistern itself is cracked, or if the unit is old enough that parts are no longer available.
How much does toilet repair cost in London?
It depends on which part has failed and whether it's a straightforward valve or seal replacement or something more involved like a pan connector. We always give a free quote before starting any work, so you know the cost upfront. See our pricing page for more detail.
Do you cover toilet repairs across London?
Yes — we're based on Commercial Road in E1 and repair toilets across Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Islington, Newham, Southwark, Canary Wharf, Shoreditch and Whitechapel, as well as the wider London area.
